Solar Thermal

Introduction

Solar thermal technology uses the sun’s energy to generate heat. The process involves capturing the sun’s energy, converting it into heat, and using the heat to produce electricity or to heat water or air.

Solar thermal systems typically use collectors that absorb the sun’s energy and convert it into heat. The collectors are made of a selective material that can absorb inferred solar radiation, this heat is then transferred through heat exchange to a fluid (a mixture of water and glycol), which is pumped to your hot water cylinder, or swimming pool heat exchanger.

Solar thermal systems can be used for a variety of applications, including heating swimming pools, and providing hot water for domestic use. They are particularly useful in areas with abundant sunshine, and can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar panels can be either roof mounted or ground mounted. Roof mounted systems are usually allowed under Permitted Development rights (unless your property is listed or in a protected zone), ground mounted systems will usually require Planning Permission.
